The study results from a larger cancer study suggest that patients who talk to their doctors about end of life issues are less likely to receive aggressive care in the last two weeks of life. The study found that most patients (88 percent of them) had end of life conversations with their doctors at some point during their treatment but that many of them waited until less than a month from their deaths before doing so. Talking to their doctor about end of life issues a month or more from their deaths meant patients were less likely to get aggressive (and expensive) treatments and more likely to end up in hospice.
