Controlling diabetes can save everyone money (even those who don't have it)

 
This blog has covered stories about Concierge doctors before (see storyhere), we’ve even posted a story by a Concierge doctor before (see story here) and of course Seattle Elder Law Attorney, Rajiv Nagaich often includes Dr. Mixon as a guest for client appreciation events, so I’m not unaware of boutique medicine or private practice medicine as they are called.  But a Forbes story talked about concierge medicine in a way I was completely unfamiliar with.  What interested me was that it wasn’t about doctors at all.  It was about a special group of community health care workers.

Over 60% of people 50+ provide financial support for adult family members

 
A recent Merrill Lynch report looked at the financial support that older adults are providing to the generations following them.  The study covers a variety of topics, one of which I’ve covered here.  But the aspect of the study that is getting the most coverage was a survey that found that 62 percent of Americans over the age of 50 provide financial support to family members.

Doctor communications: It's not an oxymoron

 
I once took a speech class in which my instructor frequently stood on his soap box about how the American educational system spent a great deal of time developing written communication skills, a lesser amount of time with verbal communication skills and no time whatsoever with listening skills. Since proper communication requires aspects of all three, it’s no wonder communication is ranked so high in priority but so low in performance.
